Free HEIC to JPG Converters Compared: 7 Options for 2026

Published

The six online HEIC to JPG converters compared below all upload your photos to their servers, convert them there and delete them later; the stated time ranges from “immediately” to 48 hours. heicly converts in your browser instead, so photos are not uploaded. Beyond that, the tools differ mainly in free limits and in whether you need an account.

How we compared them

heicly is our own converter, and this article is published on its site. Every detail about the other tools comes from that tool’s own website, checked on 17 October 2026: its converter page, pricing page, FAQ, About page or privacy policy. We did not upload photos to the other services, so this article does not rate their speed or output quality. Policies and limits change, so check the linked pages before you rely on them.

The comparison

Tool Where photos are converted How long files are kept, per the tool Free limits stated by the tool Account for free use
heicly In your browser; not uploaded Not stored on a server No fixed number of files; device memory sets the limit Not needed
heictojpg.com Uploaded to its servers Home page: “deleted immediately after conversion”; About page: “within 48 hours” Up to 200 photos “No account required”
FreeConvert Uploaded Deleted automatically after 8 hours 1 GB per file; 20 conversion minutes per day Not needed
CloudConvert Uploaded and temporarily stored Deleted at the latest after 24 hours, or right away with the delete button 10 conversions per day; 1 GB per file The free plan is listed with a Sign Up button
Convertio On its remote servers HEIC deleted right after conversion; JPGs purged within 24 hours 1 GB maximum file size shown on the upload box Not stated
Zamzar Uploaded Free users’ files kept at most 24 hours Not stated consistently on its page “No need to sign up”
iLoveIMG Uploaded All files removed within two hours Convert to JPG: 30 files and 200 MB on the free plan Not stated

“Not stated” means we did not find it on the tool’s pages, not that the answer is no.

Where your photos go

This is the biggest difference. The six online services above each say on their own pages that your files go to their servers. heictojpg.com, for example, says photos “are automatically deleted from our servers within 48 hours”, and Convertio says “conversion happens entirely on remote servers”. After that, you rely on each service to delete your files as its pages describe.

heicly does the decoding and the JPG encoding inside your browser, so there is no upload step. You can check this for any converter, including heicly:

  • Offline test: after one conversion, disconnect from the internet and convert another photo. A converter that uploads cannot finish.
  • Network panel: open your browser’s developer tools, go to Network, and convert a photo. Look for a request roughly the size of your photo.

Free limits and accounts

  • heictojpg.com converts up to 200 photos and says no account is required.
  • FreeConvert gives free users 20 conversion minutes per day and a 1 GB file limit, without an account.
  • CloudConvert’s free plan, listed with a Sign Up button, has 10 conversions per day and a 1 GB file limit.
  • iLoveIMG’s pricing page lists 30 files and 200 MB for Convert to JPG on the free plan.
  • Zamzar says there is no need to sign up; its page shows two different file-size limits, so check before converting a large file.
  • heicly has no daily quota and no fixed batch size, but your device’s memory limits large batches, and images over 16,777,216 pixels are resized proportionally.

Quality settings

  • CloudConvert: options to control image resolution, quality and file size.
  • FreeConvert: a “Compress Output Image” setting, by compression level or to a maximum file size.
  • iLoveIMG: “Recommended Quality”, or “High Quality”, which keeps the original pixel size and is marked Premium.
  • heicly: a quality slider for single photos and a batch quality slider, both starting at 90 out of 100.

Which one to use

  • You don’t want photos to leave your device: use a converter that runs in the browser, such as heicly, which works below.
  • You also convert documents, audio or video: the upload services, such as CloudConvert, Convertio or Zamzar, handle many file types besides images.
  • You convert HEIC often on Windows or Mac: a desktop app may suit you better; see how to open HEIC files on Windows 10 and 4 ways to batch convert HEIC to JPG.

Your files never leave your device — everything happens right here in your browser. After one conversion, the converter also works offline.
